vektor - Completion of EU-Project

On September 30th the research-period of the European Union funded project vektor – European Contemporary Art Archives has been brought to an end; basis wien – leading project manager – sent the conclusive report to Brussels only some days ago.
In few weeks the final Publication "Archiving the Present – Gegenwart dokumentieren. Manual on Cataloguing Modern and Contemporary Art in Archives and Databases / Handbuch zur Erschließung moderner und zeitgenössischer Kunst in Archiven und Datenbanken" (editor: Lioba Reddeker, basis wien) will be presented to the public.

Handbook preparations!
Vektor is now in its 3rd year of research and we are currently preparing a handbook on issues of contemporary art and archives.
The book will contain guidelines on how to deal with the material, but will also include theoretical texts on archives as well as artists involvements. It will be available in September 2003. Exhibition Art Word - Museion, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Bolzano, Italy
ART WORD - Description of the Project
In the course of the years, Bolzano’s Museum of Modern Art has developed a specialization to which one might refer as "art and language,” or "image and text”: our interest here is directed to works of visual art in which language (letters, words, sentences, and even scriptural gesture) play a substantial role. In addition, on the one hand, to concrete and visual poetry and Italian Poesia Visiva, this part of the collection of Bolzano’s Museum also refers to such "major” art historical trends as Concept Art, Arte Povera, and the newer generation of conceptual approaches.

Artists Involvement and Symposium at the John Hansard Gallery, Southampton, June 22nd, 2002
The focal point of the second year will be a research project which will result in an exhibition, a seminar and a publication. Although each element is seen as an independent unit, they are all interrelated. more >>
Exhibition documenta 5
On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the documenta Archive the exhibition "Wiedervorlage d5 – Eine Befragung des Archivs zur documenta 1972" at the Kasseler Kunstverein in the Museum Fridericianum and a conference at the Evangelische Akademie in Hofgeismar has been organised. A publication is also available. The exhibition will travel to the Kunsthalle, Project Space, Vienna in May 2002. more >>

Programme of the Conference on the d5 exhibition
In the contextof the exhibition „Re-presenting d5 – An examination of the documenta Archive of 1972“, a conference was held from November 23 to 25 at the Academy of Hofgeismar with prominent speakers such as the secretary general of d5, Harald Szeemann, and the director of d11, Okwui Enwezor.
